West Coast Aerial Photography Photographs Construction Progress of Solar Plant in City of Mendota

West Coast Aerial Photography photographing solar power plant construction in Mendota, California, one of most advanced photovoltaic solar facilities in the world.

Los Angeles, CA, December 14, 2009 --(PR.COM)-- West Coast Aerial Photography, Inc., today announced that it has been photographing the construction of a five-megawatt solar power plant facility in the city of Mendota from groundbreaking to completion. This project is the first utility-scale photovoltaic solar farm approved by California's Renewable Portfolio Standard program commission, which will generate zero-emission electricity that will be sold to Pacific Gas & Electric.

"The progress they've made is incredible," states West Coast Aerial Photography President Mark Holtzman, "it looked like the solar panels grew right out of the ground." Mr. Holtzman has been photographing the site on a weekly-basis, providing both aerial and ground images.

Weekly photography of the project provides visual documentation of the groundbreaking and construction progress, as well as providing many images to choose from for marketing and publicizing the project.

Projects such as the one West Coast Aerial Photography has been photographing in Mendota will help California meet its stringent renewable energy and carbon reduction goals. Such renewable energy projects stimulate green jobs training, creation, and development in the state's economically distressed San Joaquin Valley.

Mendota, located in western Fresno County, has been hard-hit by the current economic crisis and water-shortages in California. But the thousands of acres of farmland and sunny skies make Mendota an ideal location for solar power. "Everybody's talking about going green in California," says Mendota Mayor Robert Silva, "this little town's going to be right at the front of that."

Petrochemicals in 2010: Terraforming, Released by Kevin L. Boyle, Consulting

A global review of petrochemicals in 2009 and an outlook for 2010. The global petrochemical industry made rapid adjustments to uncertain market conditions throughout 2009. China will make significant progress toward supplying its own continuing, rapid growth; while the Middle Eastern region will expand its role as the incremental petrochemical supplier to the world.

Houston, TX, December 12, 2009 --(PR.COM)-- The global petrochemical industry made rapid adjustments to uncertain market conditions throughout 2009. Some capacity closures and record low operating rates were evidence of not only the global recession but the terraforming of the industry. China will make significant progress toward supplying its own continuing, rapid growth; while the Middle Eastern region will expand its role as the incremental petrochemical supplier to the world.

Oil prices and the uneven return to growth in global markets will provide challenges to the petrochemical industry in 2010. The biggest hurdle for petrochemicals will be the growth in capacity which is sure to continue the regional rationalization in the industry. The need for action will be eased by the return to strong demand in Asia which should outpace new supply, at least in the first half of the year.

Executive Summary

2009
· A global recession cut nearly 19 million tons of polyethylene from the market
· Global output went from 5.2% in 2007 to -1.1% in 2009
· US housing starts were cut in half
· Several million tons of new capacity was delayed throughout the year until the fourth quarter
· The industry dealt with the recession and corresponding glut of new Middle Eastern capacity by closing some plants, mainly in the US, and maintaining operating rates around 70% for months
· China began to recover quickly pulling US production higher with exports of 25-30% of capacity

2010
· Regional supply will be terraformed by three years of new capacity in the low cost Middle East
· Asian, particularly Chinese demand will likely continue to be so strong that US exports may continue through the first half of the year
· Demand in Asia may take some downward price pressure off of European producers, putting off closures until the end of 2010
· Prices look as if they will remain steady and producers generally profitable, as long as oil prices maintain their forecasted slow climb

PRESS RELEASE
University of California, San Francisco, Researcher Receives ASBMB-Merck Award

Bethesda, MD, December 12, 2009 --(PR.COM)-- James A. Wells, professor and chairman of the department pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of California, San Francisco, and director of UCSF's small molecule discovery center, has been named the winner of the 2010 American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology-Merck Award for his pioneering studies in the field of protein engineering.

Wells, who also serves on the ASBMB Council, will present an award lecture, titled "Probing and Controlling Cellular Remodeling Enzymes," at 2:15 p.m. Monday, April 26, at the 2010 annual meeting in Anaheim, Calif.

Wells integrates multiple disciplines, including biophysics, cell biology, chemical biology, molecular biology, enzymology and proteomics, to design small molecules and proteins that can selectively activate or inhibit cellular processes such as differentiation and apoptosis. Through these efforts, Wells hopes to better understand how signaling events drive responses, such as cell growth and death, and perhaps discover new drugs to treat diseases like cancer.

Along the way, Wells has developed numerous innovative methodologies to improve protein engineering, molecular screening and pharmaceutical chemistry, including a disulfide-based protein-trapping technology, substrate-assisted catalysis and N-terminomics.

"[Wells] is an exciting and highly creative scientist," noted Ian A. Wilson, professor of structural biology at The Scripps Research Institute, "and these methods that he has pioneered have been invaluable to countless researchers in a multitude of fields."

"His unbridled enthusiasm is infectious and ensures his lab is fully regaled with a plethora of ideas," Wilson continued, "so they can unleash their individual talents to further progress drug discovery, biochemical mechanisms, protein function and understanding of key cellular events that impact human health."

Wells' impressive expertise in protein engineering stems from a long and renowned career in the pharmaceutical industry. Before joining UCSF, Wells spent nearly two decades at Genentech Inc., where he was a founding scientist of its protein engineering department. He later founded and served as president and chief scientific officer of Sunesis Pharmaceuticals and helped invent a novel drug-discovery platform called Tethering, which efficiently screens molecules to identify the most potent compounds that block specific protein action.

Prior to that, Wells received his bachelor's degree in biochemistry from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1973 and his doctorate in biochemistry from Washington State University in 1979. He also took on postdoctoral fellowships at both Washington State University and the Stanford University School of Medicine before joining Genentech in 1982.

"Over his career, Wells has made enormous contributions to our understanding of enzyme mechanisms, allostery, protein plasticity, protein-protein interfaces, small molecule discovery, hormone receptor signaling, molecular recognition, protease signaling and apoptosis," said Molecular and Cellular Proteomics co-editor Alma Burlingame, who is also a professor of chemistry and pharmaceutical chemistry at UCSF. "Not only has his science led to fundamental discoveries, it also produced new products in both the industrial enzyme and pharmaceutical sectors."

The ASBMB-Merck Award, presented annually, recognizes outstanding research contributions in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology.

PRESS RELEASE
SGS to Introduce IECEE Hazardous Substances Testing Services for Electric and Electronic Products

SGS offers Hazardous Substances Testing Services (HSTS), which determines and reports the level of HS in electric and electronic products in accordance with the latest IEC standards.

Helsinki, Finland, December 12, 2009 --(PR.COM)-- Due to different requirements for hazardous substances (HS) in various regions a high number of noncompliant products are still being placed on the world market. The need for reliable tools to verify and demonstrate the level of HS in electric and electronic (E&E) products was the basis for developing the IECEE Hazardous Substances Testing Services (HSTS). This approach aims to verify and demonstrate the level of HS in electric and electronic products.

As part of the HSTS an applicant receives a test report in the format defined by the IEC 6231 standard issued by an IECEE CB – HS laboratory and a Statement of Test Results (STR) granted by an NCB like SGS Fimko, which has IECEE HS laboratories in Finland, Taiwan, Thailand, China, Korea, Hong Kong and Japan.

Support for Components Manufacturers and Buyers

Through STRs and test reports manufacturers can verify whether the percentage of hazardous substances in materials is in accordance with the relevant regulations. IEC standard 62321 indicates the appropriate test methods to assess compliance.

STRs and test results can be browsed on the IECEE website, which acts as a marketing channel for components and materials that have impartial, reliable test results. Test results help in evaluating the percentage of hazardous substances in the end product.

The Chinese manufacturer Guangzhou semiconductor devices Co. Ltd which was one of the first companies in the world to receive a HS STR, considers that the “…SGS service is very helpful for E&E component companies to promote compliance of products”.

CB ROHS Certificate for HS in Components and Substances

The IECEE HS (Hazardous Substances) STR (Statement of Test Results) report service gives an effective way to identify and verify the concentrations of hazardous substances with the help of globally approved measuring procedures (IEC 62321). IECEE HS STRs and their test reports issued by a NC such as SGS Fimko are a reliable basis for the technical construction file of the final product.

SGS’s experience with IECEE HS STR is extensive. SGS experts suported IECCE in establishing this and other key services by sharing their experience in the industry and acting as IECEE work groups convenors.
